York County Prevention Collaborative

Mission

Connecting and supporting prevention initiatives in York County that focus on the prevention of violence and abuse and the promotion of health and well being.

Upcoming YCPC Meeting on June 13, 2012 (9 am at United Way of York County) - Focus on: Human Trafficking

Presenters:Katie Kondrat (SARSSM) Co-chair Greater Portland Coalition Against Sex Trafficking and Exploitation and Chelsea Rock Phelps (SARSSM) Youth Advocate

In recent years, Maine has experienced a convergence of events around human trafficking and commercial sex exploitation. Training opportunities, such as the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s Chief’s Roadshow, the New England Coalition Against Trafficking, and the Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Workgroup, supported a growing awareness about trafficking and sex exploitation among law enforcement officers and social service providers across the state. Law enforcement officers and social service providers in Greater Portland began witnessing increasing numbers of sex exploitation victims online, as well as in area shelters and other service networks. It became clear that only by joining together as a coalition, could the partners herein begin to address human trafficking and sexual exploitation comprehensively, to ensure the best possible services for survivors, and to seek accountability for the perpetrators.

The YCPC supports:

  • Collective advocacy for prevention efforts, programs and initiatives in York County
  • Access to shared information, resources, communication and training
  • Collaborative project design and grant application opportunities
