About York County Prevention Collaborative
History
Development of the York County Prevention Collaborative:
- This effort began in 2001 with the exploration of how child, youth, and family focused coalitions working in York County could be better coordinated. At that time, it was clear that state funding through the Department of Health and Human Services, upon which many coalitons depended, was becoming increasingly limited. Better coordination and collaboration among coalitions was needed.
- A planning group, based out of United Way of York County formed in 2002.
- In 2004, the York County Prevention Collaborative clarified its focus, identified its mission and changed its name to reflect its focus on the common thread of prevention.
- Since 2002, a series of nine countywide summits have been held - each with a different focus, such as substance abuse prevention and advocacy.
- The York County Prevention Collaborative continues to work to strengthen and promote prevention efforts and offers a forum for a unified voice in support of this work across the county.
